Coffee in Central Laos
The steep hills, lush valleys and volcanic soils of Central Laos makes it well-suited for premium coffee cultivation.
Its tropical monsoon climate with distinct wet and dry seasons, shaped by the southeast monsoon, brings high humidity and heavy rainfall. The region is also home to mixed tropical forests with a pronounced rainy season.
Xaysomboun is the primary coffee-growing province in Central Laos. High mountains and steep valleys create a cool climate with an average annual temperature of 20°C.
Phou Bia, the highest mountain in Laos at 2,820 meters, has an average temperature of approximately -5°C at its peak. The area is rich in biodiversity, supporting a variety of wildlife and tree species, including the rare Mai Long Leng. The climate remains fresh, humid, and cold throughout the year.
Xaysomboun also has stunning waterfalls. Tad Houay Nok, near Kongkhao Mountain, stands 200m tall and flows year-round.
